Make participation clear

Explain the next step before asking for a decision.

A practical approach

Interest is not the same as understanding. A person may care deeply about a cause and still need a clear explanation of what participation involves. Make that explanation part of the conversation rather than an afterthought.

The team should describe the relevant next step in plain language, allow time for questions and refer detailed matters to the appropriate authorised source. If a question cannot be answered confidently, say what needs checking rather than improvising.

A practical readiness check asks each team member to explain the journey in their own words. Differences reveal where guidance needs to be clearer. Consistency is built through understanding, not by asking people to repeat unfamiliar language.

Bring it into the brief

Agree who owns the decision, how the team will practise it and when learning will be reviewed. A clear responsibility keeps a useful idea connected to everyday work.
